Captivator becomes third stakes winner for Cashew

LORD Vestey's Sharrood mare Cashew again proved her worth on Saturday when her daughter Captivator recorded a narrow success over Law Of The Range in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes at Kempton.

The James Fanshawe-trained five-year-old, who was equipped with a hood, is the eighth stakes winner sired by Derby hero Motivator. She is also the third stakes winner produced out of Cashew following Taby Group 3 scorer Pistachio and the 2003 (then) Group 2 Falmouth Stakes heroine Macadamia. In an illustration of how successful Cashew has been at stud, the pair are the only Pattern winners produced by their sires, Unblest and Classic Cliche.

In all, Cashew is the dam of ten winners from as many runners.Bred by Lord Vestey, the daughter of Sharrood is a half-sister to 1997 Stayers' Hurdle winner Karshi.

At Cork, The Reaper became the 13th stakes winner by third-crop sire Footstepsinthesand when narrowly denying Experience (by Excellent Art) to win the Listed Cork Stakes over 6f.

Trainer Ger Lyons purchased the four-year-old for €40,000 from his breeder, Michael Smith, at the 2009 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.

The Reaper is the first foal out of Lady Gregory, a winning In The Wings half-sister to 2006 Group 3 Firth Of Clyde Stakes winner Princess Iris. Lady Gregory has a two-year-old filly by Oratorio and a yearling filly by Rock Of Gibraltar.
