BURNING THREAD burned off his rivalsby blazing a trail in Saturday's Scurry Stakes for three-year-olds.

The Tim Etherington-trained and owned gelding made all the running and found extra in the closing stages to repel the closing pack. Runner-up Reignier was beaten halfa length on the line, a head in front of third home Above Limits.

Etherington paid €10,500 for Burning Thread out of the consignment of Yeomanstown Stud at the 2008 Tattersalls Ireland September yearling sale.

By Ballyhane Stud resident Captain Rio, Burning Thread is the fifth living foal out of once-raced Green Desert mare Desert Rose, a daughter of Abernant Stakes winner Splice and half-sister to Lowther Stakes heroine Soar and smart sprinter Feet So Fast.

Desert Rose is also dam of four-time winning sprinter Hellbender (by Exceed And Excel) and triple middle-distance scorer Sir Sandicliffe (Distant Music).

Desert Rose's two-year-old son Master Macho (Camacho) has already raced nine times this season – without success but with six honourable placed efforts to his credit.
