Captain Marvelous ships out to French waters

GROUP 2 winner Captain Marvelous will stand at the Haras des Fontaines in France next year, having spent his first three seasons at Ballyhane Stud in County Carlow.

The seven-year-old son of Invincible Spirit's first yearlings went through the ring this year and they made a high of £34,000, paid by Con Marnane for a half-brother to Katla.

Barry Hills saddled Captain Marvelous to win three of his nine starts at two, including a three-length victory in the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte. He also finished third behind Dutch Art in the Middle Park Stakes.

The horse's best effort after his juvenile season came with a head victory over Al Qasi in the Listed Leicestershire Stakes at four.

Bred by Duncan McGregor, Captain Marvelous is out of the Dolphin Street mare Shesasmartlady, whose other progeny includes the dam of this year's Acomb Stakes runner-up Fort Bastion.
