Interest in Sidney's Candy sold to Argentina

SANTA Anita Derby winner Sidney's Candy will shuttle to Ricardo Benedicto's Haras La Pasion in Argentina for the 2012 southern hemisphere season after Rubio B Stable purchased an interest from WinStar Farm in a deal brokered by Antonio Bullrich and John Fulton.

WinStar Farm purchased Sidney's Candy from the Craig Family Trust last month with the intention of retiring the four-year-old to stud at the end of the 2011 season. The latest transaction means that Sidney's Candy will now race for the remainder of the season for WinStar Farm and Rubio B Stable.

Sidney's Candy is likely to fit well within the South American breeding industry since he is a son of Argentinean champion miler Candy Ride, now a leading sire in Kentucky.

"Rubio B has acquired a significant interest in Sidney's Candy, and he will shuttle to Haras La Pasion in Argentina after his initial season at WinStar," said Elliott Walden, WinStar president, chief executive officer, and racing manager.

"We've been impressed with Haras La Pasion for a long time and like what they bring to the table. They're a leader in Argentina and have a great programme. So we're thrilled to be working with one of the best that South America has to offer, and it's especially important that we happen to share the same passion for Sidney's Candy and his great potential."

Benedicto added: "Candy Ride is special to Argentina because he was the best horse ever to leave the country. Sidney's Candy is his best son, and we're excited about our relationship with WinStar."

To date, Sidney's Candy has won six races, including four Graded stakes, and nearly $1 million in prize-money.
