Candy Ride fillies dominate Santa Monica

Saturday; Santa Anita

Santa Monica Handicap (Grade 1), 7f, 4yo+fillies and mares

HOME SWEET ASPEN (4 f Candy Ride - My Gal Groovy by Groovy)

Bred by Sidney H & Jenny Craig

FILLIES by leading young sire Candy Ride dominated the outcome to the Santa Monica Handicap on Sunday with Home Sweet Aspen coming out on top by a neck over Sugarinthemorning. The pair pulled two-and-a-quarter lengths clear of the third, She's Cheeky.

Home Sweet Aspen is the seventh Grade 1 winner from the first four crops by Candy Ride. The filly carries thecolours of the Craig Family Trust, which represents the interests of her breeders, who also campaigned Candy Ride to win the Grade 1 Pacific Classic Stakes. The Argentinean-bred son of Ride The Rails was imported to the US following an unbeaten three-year-old season in his native country and confirmed his brilliance with two Graded stakes victories from only two starts.

The Craigs have played an influential part in the success of Candy Ride at stud since they also bred and/or owned early runners by the stallion such as Grade 1 winners Twirling Candy and Sidney's Candy, and the Grade 1-placed Chocolate Candy.

Candy Ride stands for $50,000 at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky.
