Santa Anita: Grade 3 one-two for Irish-breds

La Habra Stakes (Grade 3), 6 1/2f, 3yo f

CAMBINA (Hawk Wing - Await by Peintre Celebre)

Breeder: Carradale Ltd in Ireland

IRISH-breds dominated the finish of the Grade 3 La Habra Stakes at Santa Anita on Monday as Cambina outbattled Quiet Oasis to win by a nose.

Cambina, a daughter of former Coolmore resident Hawk Wing, was making her second American start following a successful juvenile season in the colours of Mrs John Magnier and Tommy Stack in which she ran second in the Flame Of Tara Stakes. She was purchased privately after that win by her present owners - Bilich, Cline, Schmitt, Raihill, et al - and sent to Jeff Blonde.

Cambina is the first foal out of Await, an unraced Peintre Celebre half-sister to Del Mar Listed winner Lightning Hit and the Group 3-placed Blasket Island.

Await has a two-year-old colt by Strategic Prince and a yearling colt by Antonius Pius.

Runner-up Quiet Oasis was bred by Breeding Capital Plc and Swettenham Stud, in whose colours she ran fourth in last season's C L Weld Park Stakes. The daughter of Oasis Dream is a sister to French Group 3 winner Young Pretender and the third winner out of Sunday Heir, an Australian-bred daughter of Sunday Silence from the immediate family of New Approach.

Sunday Heir was sold in foal to Sea The Stars for 320,000gns to Tim Stakemire at last year's Tattersalls December Sale.
