Bearstone Stud takes charge in Group 3 sprint

Coral Charge (Group 3) Sandown 5f

Winner: Caledonia Lady

3yo b f Firebreak - Granuaile O'Malley (Mark Of Esteem)

BEARSTONE STUD in Shropshire styles itself as 'the source of speed' and it lived up to that promise with close connections to the winner and runner-up in the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown on Saturday.

Bearstone stands Firebreak, who sired the winner Caledonia Lady, and also owns and bred the runner-up Confessional.

Caledonia Lady is the second Group winner sired by Firebreak after his fantastic first-crop representative Hearts Of Fire, who won the Brocklesby Stakes and Group 1 Gran Criterium.

A son of Charnwood Forest, Firebreak won nine races including the Mill Reef Stakes at two and the Hong Kong Mile at five.

Firebreak, also the sire of Listed Radley Stakes winner Electric Feel, stood at Bearstone this year at a fee of £3,500.

The Jo Hughes-trained Caledonia Lady's owners Isla and Colin Cage bred the three-year-old filly out of the 6f-placed Mark Of Esteem mare Granuaile O'Malley.

The dam, who is out of Queen Mary Stakes runner-up Dame Laura, has produced three winners from four runners. Caledonia Lady's half-siblings Caledonia Prince (by Needwood Blade) and Caledonia Princess (Kyllachy) have won nine races between them.

Confessional, who went down to Caledonia Lady by just a nose, is by Dubawi and out of Golden Nun, a Bearstone Stud-bred daughter of Bishop Of Cashel who won the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes.
