Caleb's Posse retired to stand at Three Chimneys

CALEB'S Posse, the winner of last year's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, has been retired from racing and will stand at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky. The four-year-old son of Posse is owned by Three Chimneys in partnership with Everett Dobson and Don C. McNeill.

Caleb's Posse retires as the winner of eight of 19 starts and earnings of $1,423,379, his finest moments coming when successful in last season's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs by four lengths and the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga, in which he defeated Uncle Mo.

The Donnie Von Hemel-trained colt also acquitted himself well in defeat on several occasions during his career, notably when running a close second in this year's Grade 1 Carter Handicap and Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, on what proved to be his final start.

"We discovered a non-displaced fragment in his left knee after the Met Mile," said the colt's owners. "We were hopeful that some time off would resolve the situation, but recent radiographs have revealed that surgery to remove the chip will mean that he could not return to the racetrack this year. He has proven his brilliance on the track, and now we want to give him a chance to pass on that brilliance in the breeding shed."

Caleb's Posse was also successful in the Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes, Grade 3 Ohio Derby and the Clever Trevor Stakes.

"We are thrilled that Caleb's Posse is coming to Three Chimneys," said Case Clay of Three Chimneys Farm. "He was a brilliant miler who traces back to La Troienne. He is a quality individual that will cross well with a variety of pedigrees. We expect him to be a very popular commercial sire."

Bred in Kentucky by McNeill, Caleb's Posse is out of the Slewacide mare Abbey's Missy. He  will be available to breeders for inspection from next week and his stud fee announced at a later date.
