Green Desert the sire in form at Catterick

GREEN DESERT was the sire to follow at Catterick on Wednesday. The Nunnery Stud veteran son of Danzig sired the winners of the first and third races, while the winner of the second race is by his son, Byron.

The Selling Stakes was won by Paper Dreams, the first foal of Pickwick Papers, herself an unraced daughter of high-class middle-distance filly Papering. Paper Dreams cost €16,000 as a yearling and 15,000gns asa two-year-old and is trained by Kevin Ryan.

The Novice Auction Stakes went to Piece By Piece, who cost just £800 as a January yearling and £5,000 when reoffered that August. Trained by Tim Easterby, the Byron colt is out of the Pivotal mare Queen Jean finished first and second on his previous starts.

The Claiming Stakes went to ten-year-old Eijaaz. This was an 11th victory for the Shadwell-bred gelding who is a brother to the Listed-placed mare Tahirah.

Green Desert's influence continuesas a successful sire of sires, including Invincible Spirit, Oasis Dream and Cape Cross.
