Grade 1 sire Crafty Prospector dies aged 31

PENSIONED stallion Crafty Prospector died on Saturday at Fred Seitz's Brookdale Farm in Kentucky at the age of 31, the Blood-horse reports.

The son of Mr Prospector stood at Brookdale Farm from 1990 until his retirement in 2007. He had previously stood in Florida.

The winner of seven races, his best performance came when runner-up in the 1983 Gulfstream Park Handicap.

His best progeny include Japanese champion Agnes Digital, multiple Grade 1 place-getter Crafty C T and Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap winner Devious Course.

Among the notable performers produced by his daughters are Downthedustyroad, Harmony Lodge and Pampered Princess. Successful sire Intikhab is also out of a Crafty Prospector mare.

Crafty Prospector will be buried alongside Deputy Minister and Forest Wildcat at Brookdale Farm.
