Brightwells launches new Cheltenham sale

BRIGHTWELLS are hoping to capitalise on an increasing demand for young jumps prospects by staging a new Horses in Training Sale to coincide with the Open meeting at Cheltenham on Friday October 15.

Named the ‘Cheltenham October Horses in Training Sale', the auction will offer approximately 60 Flat horses in training whose credentials lend themselves to becoming successful jumpers. By targeting a jumps audience, a likely clash with Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Sale is not envisaged to pose much of a problem.

As Matt Mitchell, head of Brightwells Bloodstock, explained, the auction house is looking to develop the sale around quality rather than quantity.

"The Cheltenham October Horses in Training Sale will for the first time provide the Flat sector with the opportunities that have produced outstanding results for the National Hunt Sales here at Cheltenham," he said.

"Year after year, people buy good horses off the Flat to go jumping and the opportunity is there to provide a select sale.

"This will be a sale that offers buyers a select list of attractive potential jumpers, one where people don't have to search through a lot of horses to find what they want."

The new sale follows the format developed by the company of selling after racing, successfully employed during the past five years by Brightwells' other annual horses in training sales at Cheltenham.

Mitchell added: "Cheltenham's first meeting of the season attracts many of the leading owners who enjoy a great days racing and will now be able to buying their future winners in the evening."

Entries close on Friday September 10 although Wild Card entries will be accepted until closer to the sale.
