ZARKANDAR (g Azamour - Zarkasha by Kahyasi)

Breeder: H H Aga Khan Studs SC

ZARKANDAR, a half-brother to the brilliant Zarkava, made the perfect start to his hurdling career on Saturday when claiming the scalp of Molotof in the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle.

The four-year-old is from the first crop of the Aga Khan's King George winner Azamour and thus one of only a handful of jumps runners by the son of Night Shift. Azamour was one of last season's leading second season sires, producing eight stakes winners including the classy juveniles Native Khan and Zoowraa.

Zarkandar is the latest high-profile jumper off the Aga Khan production line following the likes of Ebaziyan and Zaynar. He is particularly well connected as a half-brother to the unbeaten 2008 Arc heroine Zarkava, who recently foaled a colt by Sea The Stars. Their dam, the Kahyasis mare Zarkasha, is a direct descendant of Prince Aly Khan's multiple Group 1 winner Petite Etoile.

CAPTAIN CHRIS (7 g King's Theatre - Function Dream by Strong Gale)

Breeder: Mrs Noreen Walsh

Jumping won the day in the Pendil Novices' Chase with Captain Chris turning a good round to take this prestigious novices chase and become the third consecutive big race weekend winner by King's Theatre.

The son of Sadler's Wells strengthened his hold over the leading jumps sires' list last Saturday when Riverside Theatre won the Betfair Ascot Chase and victory by Captain Chris today added a further £13,340 to his haul.

Captain Chris is bred to excel over fences as a son of the top two-mile chaser Function Dream. The daughter of Strong Gale carried Noreen Walsh's colours to victory in 11 races including the Game Spirit Chase.

Captain Chris, who was sold to Aidan Murphy for €250,000 at the 2007 Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale, is the second foal and only winner out of Function Dream, who died in 2008.
