THE Welsh stallion ranks have received a boost with the news that Brian Boru, sire of Lucinda Russell's talented novice chaser Bold Sir Brian, will stand alongside Dr Massini and Bach at Dunraven Stud near Bridgend next season.

A fee for the 12-year-old son of Sadler's Wells will be set at a later date.

Brian Boru was trained by Aidan O'Brien to win four races including the 2002 Racing Post Trophy and 2003 St Leger. He was also second in the Irish St Leger and third in two renewals of the Canadian International.

Brian Boru retired to stand under the Coolmore banner at the Beeches Stud in 2005 and from three crops aged four and above is the sire of 19 jumps winners in Britain and Ireland led by Bold Sir Brian. The six-year-old has won five races for Lucinda Russell including the Grade 2 Premier Kelso Hurdle.

"Wales has never had a stallion of this calibre," said David Brace of Dunraven Stud. "He's a Classic winner by Sadler's Wells and has lots to run for him. He's a young stallion with plenty going for him."

Brian Boru is out of the Park Hill Stakes winner Eva Luna and a half-brother to the dam of Workforce.
