Breeders' Cup
discounted nomination deadline looming

BREEDERS have 11 days in which to nominate their foals to the Breeders' Cup should they wish to take advantage of the online $100 discount. If a foal sired by a fully nominated Breeders' Cup stallion, European Breeders' Fund stallion or BCL/EBF Common Fund stallion is nominated electronically for the programme before midnight August 1, nominators are required to pay $400 instead of the full $500 fee.

The discount was proposed by the Racing and Nominations Committee as a way of boosting nominator participation against the current economic backdrop. In addition, use of the online facility also increases efficiency and reduces costs.

So far, 1,760 foals have been nominated to the Breeders' Cup via the on-line service. The figure represents a massive increase from this time last year when 638 foals had been nominated at the original cost of $500.

"Nominators have responded enthusiastically by taking advantage of our stimulus program and 20 per cent reduction for on-line users," said Breeders' Cup President and CEO Greg Avioli. "We appreciate their loyal support in these difficult economic times and encourage all to take advantage of the discount over the next two weeks."

The final deadline to nominate foals at a $500 fee is October 15. However, late foal nominations will be accepted until December 15 when a $1,500 fee will be charged.
