GOLDIKOVA (5 m Anabaa - Born Gold by Blushing Groom) Breeder: Wertheimer et Frere in Ireland

GOLDIKOVA crept closer to Miesque's record of ten Group 1 wins on Tuesday with a thrilling victory in Royal Ascot's opener over another brilliant miler, Paco Boy.

The Wertheimer et Frere homebred continues to pay a tremendous tribute to her late sire, the July Cup winner Anabaa, whose death last July - just days before Goldikova won the Falmouth Stakes - was a great blow to the French stallion industry.

The son of Danzig, who was famously given by Sheikh Mohammed to Alec Head as a two-year-old after being diagnosed as a wobbler, spent all bar one of his 13 seasons at stud at the Head family's Haras du Quesnay. He stood the 2007 season at Castleton Lyons in Kentucky.

Goldikova's immediate family was in the headlines only on Sunday when Goldwaki, a Dalakhani colt out of the mare's Group 3-winning half-sister Gold Round, won the Group 3 Prix du Lys at Chantilly.

As well as Gold Round, Goldikova is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Gold Sound and the Group 3-placed pair Born Something and Red Tune.

Their dam, the Blushing Groom mare Born Gold, is a sister to the 1993 Coronation Stakes heroine Gold Splash, whose two-year-old, Co Blue Splash, is bred along similar lines to Goldikova as a daughter of Anabaa Blue.

This is a brilliant French family that traces to the 1981 Arc heroine Gold River via the Prix Saint-Alary winner Riviere d'Or.

Born Gold has a two-year-old filly by Galileo named Galikova and a filly foal by Anabaa.
