The Minack: the Warwick novice chase winner has a high-class pedigree

Fontwell: Definity secures family double

THE eight-year-old Definity matched the efforts of his half-brother and Thursday's novice chase winner The Minack in landing the beginners' chase at Fontwell on Friday.

By Definite Article, the gelding is owned by Graham Roach and trained by Paul Nicholls, who are also responsible for King's Theatre's son The Minack.

Both are out of Irish National winner Ebony Jane. Bolt Action, Ebony Jane's first foal, was also owned by Roach and showed plenty of promise before he died on his second hurdle start at Wincanton.

Roach subsequently acquired Definity as a foal for €34,000 and The Minack for €40,000 from breeder Kenilworth House Stud.
"We sold The Minack to Keith Lewis as a foal", said stud manager Gerry Ross.

"Graham Roach also bought Thisthatandtother and The Tother One from us through Keith Lewis, sothey've had plenty of luck with us.

"Ebony Jane died last January. We are breeding from a daughter of hers, Amber Light. We also have Bilboa here, who was third in the Champion Hurdle."

While the stud is mostly jumps orientated, it also owns Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Termagant, who is to go back into training this year and is likely to retire to the paddocks thereafter.
