Shakespeare sires first winner in Italy

FLORIDA-based freshman sire Shakespeare was represented by his first winner on Thursday when his daughter Quantum Of Solange landed a 7f maiden at Naples in Italy.

Trained by Riccardo Menichetti, Quantum Of Solange had finished fourth and sixth on her first two starts. She is out of the multiple stakes-winning Sandpit mare Bolaro, a half-sister to Grade 3 scorer Big Bambu, and she was purchased by agent Federico Barberini for $6,500 as a short yearling at last year's Keeneland January Sale.

Shakespeare is a ten-year-old son of Theatrical out of the That's A Nice mare Lady Shirl, winner of the EP Taylor Stakes. He is a brother to Grade 2 New York Stakes winner Lady Shakespeare and a half-brother to Grade 2 Lake George Stakes scorer Perfect Shirl and to Grade 3-placed Fantastic Shirl.

Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Shakespeare won two top-flight races - the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational at four and the Woodbine Mile at six.

Having originally retired to Hill ‘n' Dale Farm in Kentucky, he was last year switched to stand at Signature Stallions in Florida, where he covered this season at a fee of $10,000. He has 72 two-year-olds in his first crop.
