General Quarters: dual Grade 1 winner will stand in Florida

Blue Grass Stakes hero General Quarters to stud

THE Florida stallion ranks have gained a new recruit in dual Grade 1 winner General Quarters,a son of Sky Mesa who will enter stud at Stonewall Farm Ocala for $8,500.

Trained by his owner, Tom McCarthy, General Quarters leapt to prominence early in his three-year-old season when successful in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland.

Switched to turf the following year, he took the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs, in which he defeated subsequent Breeders' Cup winner Court Vision. He was also third in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap.

General Quarters is out of the Unbridled's Song mare Ecology, who is a half sister to stakes winner Minimalist and daughter of Irish Listed winner Gdansk's Honour.
