'Satisfying' startmade to Arqana sales season

ARQANA made a "satisfying" start to the season at their Mixed February Sale at Saint-Cloud on Monday where final figures showed an encouraging 68 per cent of horses sold, up ten points from last year.

In contrast, the aggregate showed a downturn at €951,000, with 40 more horses sold. This was also the case for the median, which fell 12.5 per cent €3,500, and average, which dropped 36 per cent to €5,695.

President Eric Hoyeau said: "The increase in percentage sold was very important for the sale and we are satisfied with the results. Last year the dispersal accounted for a big part of the aggregate and today we have achieved our objective of selling on horses. Next year we will be back in Deauville."

Blowaway, a half sister to Classic prospect Inoubliable made the top lot after she sold to Laurent Benoit of Broadhurst Agency for €67,000.

The five-year-old mare is out of the Diesis mare Soft Pleasure and is also a close relative of dual Group 1 winners Bullish Luck andJuvenia.
