Bloomsbury lands sister to Mikhail Glinka

A FLURRY of big prices midway through the afternoon helped light up a wet day of trading at the Tattersalls December Sale.

They were led by a sister to Aidan O'Brien's Mikhail Glinka - second in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud since the publication of the catalogue - who was sold to the Duke Of Bedford's Bloomsbury Stud for 275,000gns.

Offered by the Castlebridge Consignment, the filly is the second foal out of Lady Karr, a sister to Derby winner Sir Percy.

Just minutes later, Amanda Perrett went to 190,000gns on behalf of an undisclosed client for a Pivotal colt from Grandalea Stud.

"He's just a lovely, big, rangy colt," said Perrett. "He's been bought for an existing owner who has been a great supporter of mine."

From the strong Cheveley Park Stud family of Red Bloom, the colt had been purchased by Peter Doyle for just 16,000gns as a foal at the Tattersalls December Sale. He was originally scheduled to sell at Part 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale but was forced to miss his engagement due to atemperature.

The only yearling catalogued by US Horse of the Year Bernardini became the first six-figure lot of the session when knocked down to Jamie McCalmont for 170,000gns.

However, it later transpired that thecolt, who is the first foal out of the Jeremy Noseda-trained Musidora Stakes heroine Cassis, had been bought back by McCalmont on behalf of his owner, Sanford Robertson.

With approximately 60 lots still to pass through the ring, the average is running at 18,077gns - just seven per cent below last year's overall average. The median is 9,500gns.
