ENCKE'S St Leger victory may not have been an obvious cause for celebration for the Aga Khan, but the Prix Vermeille victory of Shareta demonstrated why.
While the Aga Khan sold Encke's talented dam Shawanda to Sheikh Mohammed in 2005, he has retained other members of the family including Shareta's dam Shawara, a half-sister to Encke's dam. Shawanda and Shareta are both by Sinndar. Shawara returned to the sire this year.
The decision, in 2007, to increase Invincible Spirit's fee to €35,000 from €10,000 has hardly been proved to be rash bearing in mind that his 2008 foal crop included July Cup winner Mayson and Moonlight Cloud, who added to her Group 1 tally in the Prix du Moulin. The same crop yielded Fury, Hooray and Zebedee.
Moonlight Cloud's dam Ventura is a half-sister to the dam of this season's Railway Stakes winner and Saturday's National Stakes fourth Probably, out of National Stakes runner-up and French 1,000 Guineas fifth Wedding Bouquet, a half-sister to Derby hero Generous, Irish 1,000 Guineas and Oaks winner Imagine (dam of Group 1 winner Horatio Nelson) and Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up Strawberry Roan.
Ventura was purchased for 900,000gns by MV Magnier at last year's Tattersalls December Sale.
WHILE the first two dam's in the pedigree of Group 3 Prix du Petit Couvert winner Monsieur Joe do not make major waves, there is some illustrious breeding via his great grandam Lover's Rose.
She is the dam of Pass The Peace, a daughter of Alzao who gave Michael Bell's fledging training career a huge filip by landing the Cheveley Park Stakes at two before victory in the Fred Darling and a second in the French 1,000 Guineas at three.
She has been a more than useful broodmare, producing fellow Cheveley Park winner Embassy, who had a similarly galvanising impact for David Loder.
Another daughter of Pass The Peace, Tarshi, won the Pretty Polly Stakes, while her half-sister Puck's Castle is grandam of Salisbury Listed winner and Princess Margaret runner-up Vital Statistics.
Monsieur Joe is one of five stakes winners this season for Choisir.
THE death earlier this year at the age of 14 of Chichicastenango, who had already been sold to Japan, nonetheless came as a reminder of his loss to French breeding - as a value for money sire who could produce elite permormers.
Already this season the son of Smadoun (a Caro line son of Kaldoun), whose fee was as low as €3,500, has produced a French Derby winner in Saonois, who claimed a fifth 2012 stakes winner for his sire by landing the Prix Niel.
Chichicastenango is also the sire of Prince Of Wales's Stakes winner Vision D'Etat, Group 2 winner Blek and an overall 12 winners of 21 stakes races.
