Liable named Kentucky Broodmare of the Year
LIABLE, damof last season's Breeders' Cup Classic hero and champion older male Blame, was named the 2010 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year on Friday by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders in a ceremony at Keeneland.
Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm were recipients of the award, which is a particularly fitting one given that Claiborne has just celebrated 100 years of operation.
Liable's celebrated son Blame was also named the leading Kentucky-bred older male. The son of Arch is currently standing his first season at Claiborne Farm.
Liable, a stakes-placed daughter of Seeking The Gold from the family of Sadler's Wells and Nureyev, is also the dam of 2011 stakes winner Tend.
The evening also saw David Simcock's dual Group 1 winner Dream Ahead named the leading Kentucky-bred racing abroad. The son of Diktat was bred by Darley in Kentucky out of the Flying Childers Stakes heroine Land Of Dreams and was purchased by agent Federico Barberini for just $11,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September Sale.
Darley's contribution to the Kentucky industry was also recognised, with the operation receiving the PAB Widener Award for Breeder of the Year.
Zenyatta was named Kentucky-bred Horse of the Year and older female; Uncle Mo, champion juvenile colt; More Than Real, champion juvenile filly; Lookin At Lucky, three-year-old colt; Blind Luck, three-year-old filly; Gio Ponti, turf male; Shared Account, turf female; Majesticperfection, sprinter; and Slip Away, steeplechaser.
Distorted Humor, who is represented in Saturday's 2,000 Guineas by Pathfork, was named leading sire.
