Black Piranha tops Inglis Sydney Spring Sale

DUAL Group One winner Black Piranha will join the Anthony Freedman stable in Victoria after he was sold in Sydney on Friday for A$245,000.

The dual Stradbroke Handicap winner was offered for sale at the Inglis Sydney Spring Thoroughbred Sale to dissolve the partnership of owners that have raced the gelding since he was a two-year-old.

He has been purchased by leading owner and breeder Sean Buckley of Ultratune fame. Cameron Coke Bloodstock made the successful bid on Buckley's behalf.

"There was plenty of tough competition about, but I'm delighted to be able to pick sucha high quality galloper up for my Melbourne client," Cooke said.

"He looked in sparkling condition in the ring and his form has been outstanding. His run the other day to finish fourth in the George Main Stakes was a top effort.

"He will head to Melbourne to be aimed at some of the big spring carnival races, followed by possible trips to New Zealand for the summer carnival and maybe Dubai next year."

Rosehill trainer Con Karakatsanis had prepared Black Piranha to win eight races and more than a$2.6 million prizemoney.

Stakes placed Anabaa mare Turnstiles also sold for A$120,000.

She was purchased by Rick Connolly Bloodstock.

At sale end, 90 horses had been sold at a clearance rate of 92 per cent, for a gross tally of A$792,850.

"Well-bred fillies and better performed racehorses also sold very well, with online bidding again playing a strong part in the excellent clearance rate," said Inglis director Jonathan D'Arcy.
Attention now turns to the Inglis Australian Racehorse Sale in Melbourne on October 25.

The sale for both raced and unraced horseshas been strategically placed between the Cox Plate and Derby Day to ensure maximum exposure.
