Big increases across the board at Fasig-Tipton

THE Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale in Timonium Maryland has defied economic predictions with an impressive 286 per cent increase in aggregate sales in comparison to last year.

Monday's one day mixed auction sold 260 of the 339 horse's offered for $3,739,350. This was a huge increase in comparison to the158 horses which were sold for $968,100 at last year's sale. The sale also saw a large increase in average ($14,382) and median ($5,200) prices, which increased by 134 per cent and 160 per cent respectively.

The sale was boosted by the dispersal of Carl Lizza's Flying Zee Stable which provided nine of the day's top 13 highest-priced horses. It brought a total of $2,315,350 from the 96 horses which were sold.

The highest priced horse of the day came from the dispersal. Carlos Martin, agent for Blue Devil Racing Stable, paid $260,000 to secure Salty Romance. The ten-year-old Salt Lake mare out of Checkerspot, by Affirmed, won the 2003 Boyd's Delta Princess Stakes at two and has produced two winners from three starters. The bay mare was offered in foal to multiple graded stakes winner Cosmonaut.

The second highest priced horse of the day also came from the dispersal. A Hard Spun Colt out of The Real Melody, by Unbridled's Song was bought by DundrumFarm for $205,000.

Blue Devil Racing Stable's and Dundrum Farm, who only purchased the one horse, were the two top buyer's of the sale in terms of total sales.

The Fasig-Tipton sale season will end with the Texas December mixed sale on December 12.
