Big afternoon for Meon Valley's Hyperspectra

A DAY after cherring home homebred Izzi Top in the Middleton Stakes at York, Meon Valley Stud struck again at the Dante meeting, this time as the breeder of the first two home in the 1m2 1/2 furlong handicap on Friday.

The outcome was made all the more memorable in that the horses in question, the winner Media Hype and second home Troopingthecolour, are both out of Hyperspectra.

In addition, the race came only twohours after another family representative, Hyperspectra's granddaughter Shirocco Star, was touched off in the Listed Swettenham Stud Fillies Trial Stakes at Newbury.

The Elaine Burke-trained Media Hype was winning for the third time in seven starts. By Tiger Hill, the five-year-old entire was retained by Meon Valley for 50,000gns as a yearling and sold last October at Tattersalls for 8,500gns to Lars Kelp.

Troopingthecolour, a six-year-old gelding by Nayef trained by Steve Gollings, has won four of his 13 starts. A 230,000gns Tattersalls October yearling purchase by John Ferguson, he was knocked down to Chris Waller for 40,000gns at the 2009 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale but resold just weeks later for £41,000 to P J Martin at the DBS December Sale.

The pair are two of six winners out of Hyperspectra, who is also the dam of Group 3 winner and Irish 1,000 Guineas runner-up France. The winning daughter of Rainbow Quest, who is a half-sister to the tough Group 3 winner Poet and descendant of Reprocolor, has a two-year-old filly by Dansili and a filly foal by Sea The Stars. She visits Pivotal this year.
