Berry snaps up
Top Spin at 175,000gns

Tinkler, acting on behalf of a Hong Kong-based client, had to fight off a bidder hiding on the back stairs to secure the son of Hurricane Run, consigned by Roger Varian's Kremlin House Stables.

With 70 horses approximately to sell, the average is running at 14,991gns - 22 per cent above last year's day one figure. The clearance rate is a robust 80 per cent.

Lot 135 - a productive couple of minutes for the Castlebridge Consignment sees them sell Franglais, the dam ofTom Tate's promising two-year-old Parc De Launay, for 60,000gns and Summer Bliss, in foal to Starspangledbanner, for 52,000gns.

Anthony Penfold snapped up Franglais, also the dam of 2008 Windsor Castle Stakes winner Flashmans Papers, after fighting off Stephen Hillen among others. A half-sister to E P Taylor Stakes heroine Fraulein, she was offered in foal to Mount Nelson.

"She'll be going to Ireland," said Penfold, "and Alex Cole, who manages Jim Hay's horses, tells me he was underbidder, so they obviously think a bit of the two-year-old. It's hard to buy a proper pedigree like that and I thought it would take at least 60,000gns to get her."

Crosshaven Bloodstock were the successful bidder on Summer Bliss, a Green Desert half-sister to Grade 3 winner Alexis.

Anthony Stroud, meanwhile, is the successful bidder at 60,000gns for Meadowlark, a three-year-old Street Cry mare from the immediate family of Lammtarra in foal to Pivotal.
