Top US stallion A.P. Indy retired from stud duties

MAJOR US-based stallion A.P. Indy has been retired from stud duties after none of his matings this year were successful. The 22-year-old son of Seattle Slew covered more than 25 mares this season at Bill Farish's Lane's End Farm, Kentucky.

Farish said: "We had some vets in last week trying to look for some magic answer, but he is 22 years old. He's had a great run, he's been a great stallion for us."

Fellow Lane's End star sire Kingmambo was pensioned in September.

"Losing him and Kingmambo in such a short period of time is a tough blow, but both horses had been waning," Farish said. "They're tough to replace."

A.P. Indy won the Belmont Stakes, Breeders' Cup Classic and Santa Anita Derby. His best progeny include Grade 1 winners Mineshaft, Bernardini, Aptitude, Rags To Riches and Music Note.
