Gamilati wins the UAE 1000 Guineas Trial - 06.01.2012

Bernardini makes a quick start to 2012 at Meydan

BERNARDINI has made a quick start to 2012 courtesy of Gamilati, who ran out an impressive winner of the UAE 1,000 Guineas trial at Meydan on Friday.

The filly, trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, was successful in last year's Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes prior to finishing last in the Lowther Stakes at York.

The Darley homebred is the second foal out of Illustrious Miss, a daughter of Kingmambo, who was successful in the Group 3 Totesport ChartwellStakes at Lingfield prior to being placed in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She has produced two other winners, most notably Late Romance, the winner of two races in France.

Bernardini a multiple Grade 1-winner, whose victories included thePreakness Stakes, has sired four Grade/Group 1 winners in his first two crops. The highlights being To Honor And Serve, Stay Thirsty and A Z Warrior in America and Biondetti in Italy.

Bernardini will stand at Darley's Jonabell Farm in2012 for $150,000, double his 2011 fee of $75,000.
