Bernardini colt ends Hansen's unbeaten run

LAST season's Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Hansen had his unbeaten record ended when finishing second to stakes-race debutant Algorithms in Sunday's Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes for three-year-olds over 1m at Gulfstream Park.

Algorithms, trained by Todd Pletcher, relished the sloppy track to run out an emphatic five-length winner.

He is from the second crop of exciting sire Bernardini, who stands at Darley's Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.

Bernardini is now the sire of eight Grades stakes winners, half of whom have struck at the highest level - A Z Warrior, Biondetti, Stay Thirsty and To Honor And Serve.

Algorithms was bred by Oakbrook Farm out of the Grade 3-placed Cryptoclearance mare Ava Knowsthecode.

He is his dam's fifth stakes-winning progeny, after Alex's Allure (Sky Classic), Keyed Entry (Honour And Glory), Justin Phillip (First Samurai) and Successful Mission (Successful Appeal).

Algorithms was sold to his owners Starlight Racing for $170,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale.
