All Pauls Mill stallions relocated to WinStar

WINSTAR Farm in Kentucky has acquired an interest in all four stallions at Pauls Mill. Artie Schiller, Bellamy Road, Summer Bird and US Ranger will be relocated to WinStar for the 2012 breeding season.

Pauls Mill is owned and run by Ben Walden, whose younger brother Elliott is president of WinStar. It will no longer stand stallions but will continue to operate as a breeding facility.

BenWalden said: "It will be rewarding to see the work we have begun with these four stallions meld into the exciting future of WinStar. I look forward to serving them going forward as WinStar seeks future opportunities in the stallion business."

Artie Schiller, a Breeders' Cup Mile-winning son of El Prado, is represented by his second crop of juveniles this year. His best runner is Santa Anita Derby third Mr Commons.

Another second-season sire, Bellamy Road is a son of Concerto who supplied April's Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes winner Toby's Corner.

Summer Bird, a triple Grade 1-winning son of Birdstone, retired to Pauls Mill this year, while US Ranger, a Group 1-placed son of Danzig, covered his second book of mares this year.

WinStar Farm owner Kenny Troutt said: "We are extremely excited about these four young stallion prospects, which Ben Walden has already done a fabulous job developing.

"Ben has a God-given talent to see the potential in a young stallion prospect, and Bellamy Road is his latest success story. Ben will stay involved and continue to have a significant interest in all of these stallions’ futures."

Elliott Walden added: "This was a rare opportunity to buy into four promising young stallions at the upswing of their careers.

"We tested the proven-sire market last year when we acquired Harlan’s Holiday, and he was our most popular stallion in 2011. We’re hoping for similar results from Bellamy Road and Artie Schiller."
