Oaks winner a Proud moment for Airdrie sire

PROUD CITIZEN provided a second home-bred Kentucky Oaks winner for Airdrie Stud owner Brereton C Jones with Believe You Can's Saturday night victory at Churchill Downs.

The feat had previously been achieved in 2008 when Proud Spell gave  Proud Citizen, who stands at Airdrie, a Classic winner from his first crop.

Although Believe You Can is out of the El Prado (Sadler's Wells) mare El Fasto, her pedigree is strong on American influence. The ssecond foal and first winner from  El Fasto,  Believe You Can comes from the family of Saratoga Grade 2 winner Classic Elegance and Kentucky Grade 3 winner Yukon Robbery.

Proud Citizen, whostand at $7,500 this year from a 2009 peak of $30,000, is also sire of British Group 3 juvenile River Proud.
