Beaumont boost for Shadwell sire Daaher

Sunday; Keeneland

Beaumont Stakes (Grade 2), 7f, AW, 3yo fillies

GYPSY ROBIN (f Daaher - Feisty Princess by Indian Charlie)

Bred by Cloyce C. Clark Jr in USA

YOUNG Shadwell sire Daaher received a major boost on Sunday when Gypsy Robin, one of just five foals from his first crop, made all to take the Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland for co-owner and trainer Wesley Ward.

The three-year-old filly was her sire's first runner and winner at Keeneland last April, after which she ran seventh in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. She rounded off her juvenile campaign with a victory in the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park last September.

Although successful in the 2007 Grade 1 Cigar Mile for Sheikh Hamdan and Kiaran McLaughlin, Daaher is at a major disadvantage to other second season sires. Ligament injuries forced the son of Awesome Again to retire to stud following the start of the 2008 season and he is therefore represented by only five first-crop foals bred off his initial fee of $30,000.

Daaher, who is a brother to Grade 1 winner Spun Sugar, stands at Shadwell Farm in Kentucky for $7,500. He is also the sire of triple Mexican winner Castello.

Gypsy Robin was bred in Kentucky by Cloyce C. Clark Jr out of the stakes-winning Indian Charlie mare Feisty Princess, who is also the dam of minor stakes-winning sprinter Tiger Cat Lilly (by Tale Of The Cat).

She was a $27,000 purchase by Hat Creek Racing Co. at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
