Kodiac wins at Newbury, July 2005

Kodiac: the Tally-Ho stallion has made a sound start to his stud career

First black-type win for Tally-Ho sire Kodiac

FIRST-SEASON sire Kodiac had his first black-type winner on Monday when Bathwick Bear took the Listed Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy over 6f.

The David Evans-trained colt was recording a third win from nine starts, and is out of the Listed-placed sprinter Bayleaf.

Closely related to the leading first-season sire of 2006 Invincible Spirit, Kodiac has sired a total of 13 winners in Britain and Ireland, although Stone Of Folca, second in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes, is not among them as he is still a maiden.

Rafha, dam of Kodiac and Invincible Spirit, won the May Hill, Lingfield Oaks Trial, and the Prix de Diane. She also foaled Group 3 winners Acts Of Grace and Sadian.

Irish National Stud resident Invincible Spirit began his stud career at €10,000 per cover, peaking at €75,000 in 2008, and dropping to €45,000 this year. Kodiac stood his first two terms at stud at a fee of €5,000, which was reduced to €4,000 for 2009 and 2010.
