Bargain Tatts February buy shines at Chester

Chester; Weatherbys Bank Cheshire Oaks (Listed), 1m3 1/2f, 3yo

GOOD MORNING STAR (f Shirocco - Hollow Ridge by Beat Hollow)

Bred by Wardstown Stud in Ireland

A TIGHT finish saw bargain buy Good Morning Star come out on top over the regally-bred Betterbetterbetter in this event and become the fifth stakes winner by top middle-distance performer Shirocco.

Mark Johnston secured the filly as a yearling on behalf of Jaber Abdullah for just 8,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale. He sent her out to win a Lingfield handicap in January and was required to go to only 9,000gns on behalf of Marwan Koukash when she came back under the hammer at this year's Tattersalls February Sale.

She is the second stakes winner to emerge out of the 2012 Tattersalls February Sale within a week following Saturday's Listed EBF Conqueror Stakes heroine Boastful.

Bred by Wardstown Stud, who tasted success at the highest level last October as the breeder of Australian Group 1 winner December Draw, Good Morning Star is the first foal out of Listed-placed Hollow Ridge, who ran sixth in the 2007 Cheshire Oaks to Light Shift.

Victory at Epsom for Good Morning Star would see her become a second Oaks winner within the immediate reaches of her family following her granddam Bolas, the two-length winner of the 1994 Irish Oaks for Khalid Abdullah and Barry Hills.

Hollow Ridge, a daughter of Beat Hollow, has a two-year-old brother to the winner.

Shirocco stands at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket for £7,000.
