FIRST CITY (6 m Diktat - City Maiden by Carson City)

Bred by Darley in Britain

A MARE who sold for just 10,000gns as a yearling narrowly lowered the colours of the Galileo filly Mahbooba in a thrilling finish to the Cape Verdi at Meydan on Friday.

The victory of First City, who was making her first start for Ali Rashid Al Raihe having been trained in the UK by David Simcock, saw her become the 13th Group winner for Diktat, the former Darley stallion who is best known as the sire of champion sprinter Dream Ahead. Following stints in Newmarket, France and Japan, the Group 1-winning son of Warning now stands in Spain at Dehesa De Milagro for a private fee.

Remarkably, First City's dam, City Maiden, was sold for just £3,000 by Rabbah Bloodstock to the BBA Ireland at the 2009 Ascot November Sale.

In addition to First City, City Maiden is also the dam of minor winner Metropolitan Miss (by Bertolini) from six foals of racing age. The unraced daughter of Carson City is a half-sister to French Listed winner Vernoy and out of Grade 2 heroine Marble Maiden (by Lead On Time).

David Simcock signed for First City when she went through the ring for 10,000gns at the 2007 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
