North Light gets
first American winner

EPSOM DERBY winner and first-season US sire North Light has sired his first US winner. Celtic New Year, a filly out of the Dynaformer mare Reggae Queen, won at Ellis Park over 5f110yds on Saturday.

The sire's first winner was successful at Rostov-on-Don racecourse in Russia in the middle of July.

North Light, who also won the Group 2 Dante Stakes and finished second in the Irish Derby and the Brigadier Gerard Stakes, stands at Adena Springs in Kentucky. His fee this year was $15,000.

He was another successful runner bred by Ballymacoll Stud, being out of the farm's Prix Cadran winner Sought Out, a daughter of Rainbow Quest.

He is a half-brother to the Group 3 winner Cover Up and from the family of Group 1 winner Gamut, Group 2 winner Multicoloured, King George winner and sire Golan, as well as yesterday's King George runner-up Tartan Bearer.

He had 67 foals in his first crop, seven of which have run.
