Dam of Russian
Rhythm pensioned

BALISTROIKA, dam of champion Russian Rhythm, has been pensioned at the age of 22 by Elizabeth Moran's Brushwood Stable. The daughter of Nijinsky foaled a filly by Street Cry on March 18.

Russian Rhythm was one of eight winners produced by the unraced Balistroika, who was bred by Brushwood out of the excellent producer Balidaress. As well as Balistroika, Balidaress produced the Group 1-winning two-year-olds Desirable, later the dam of Shadayid, and Park Appeal, the dam of Cape Cross.

Russian Rhythm, a daughter of Kingmambo, was crowned the European championfilly of 2003 following victories in the 1,000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes and Nassau Stakes for Cheveley Park Stud. Her second foal, Safina, ran a promising third in a competitive maiden at Newmarket last autumn and is currently a 33/1 shot for the 1,000Guineas.

Balistroika also bred the Royal Lodge Stakes winner Perfectperformance, a son of Rahy who now stands in South America.

Balistroika, who has a yearling colt by Mr Greeley, will live out her days at Brushwood Farm in Pennsylvania.
