SPIRIT SON (5 g Poliglote - Kirzinnia by Zino)

Breeder: Anne Baudrelle & Jean-Marc Baudrelle

THE Grade 1-winning brothers Saint Du Chenet and Tanais Du Chenet have advertisedPoliglote's credentials as a jumps sire in France to good effect, and unsurprisingly his influence is starting to grow in Britain and Ireland with Butler's Cabin, Spirit River and the ill-fated Lingo among those to taste big race success.

His latest star is the highly regarded Spirit Son, who continued to live up to his reputation by easily accounting for Cedre Bleu (by Montjeu's half-brother Le Fou) in the Listed 2m1f hurdle at Exeter on Sunday.

The five-year-old is the second classy jumper out of French jumps winner Kirzinnia following Risko, who ran second in the Prix Hubert d'Aillieres at Auteuil in 2007. Kirzinnia is a half-sister to four jumps winners including Miss Raho, the dam of smart French jumpers Hercule Noir and Roc De Sivola. Another half-sister, Kirkla, has also clicked with Poliglote to produce 2005 Prix Edmond Barrachin Steeplechase winner Kiko.

Poliglote, a son of Sadler's Wells who won the 1994 Criterium de Saint-Cloud, spends the northern hemisphere season at Haras d'Etreham in France. However, he is also a popular stallion in Argentina, where his best produce include Group 1 Flat winners Cacchora Wells and Kalath Wells.

Bakbenscher later provided his sire, the recently deceased Bob Back, with an across-the-card double when denying favourite Definity (out of Irish Grand National winner Ebony Jane) in the 3m graduation chase.

Bob Back had earlier supplied the Flyingbolt Novice Chase winner Saludos.

Bred in Britain by Sandicroft Stud, Bakbenscher was an €82,000 purchase by Aiden Murphy at the 2006 Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale.
