Average up at Emperors Palace Two-year-old Sale

THE opening session of the three-day Emperors Palace National Two-year-old Sale in South Africa on Friday ended with an encouraging set of results led by a R325,000 son of leading sire Dynasty.

All told, 86 lots were sold for a total of R5,085,000 (£4,350,280/€4,969,210), up 13 per cent from last year, while the average rose nine per cent to R59,128 (£5,058/€5,778). The clearance rate dropped, however, from 80 per cent to 75 per cent.

Hassan Adams was the successful bidder on the R325,000 (£27,804/€31,759) session-topping Dynasty colt. Offered by Highlands Farm, he is out of a Lanquid Lady, a multiple winning daughter of Theatrical.

Also popular was a son of successful Mr Prospector stallion Goldkeeper, who was purchased by S. D. Aquino for R220,000. The Sandown Stud-consigned colt is out of Newsday, an unraced Centenary half-sister to stakes winner Tub Thunder.
