Aussie Rules moves to Lanwades Stud

LANWADES Stud and Denford Stud have joined forces to acquire promising young sire Aussie Rules in a move which will see the Classic-winning son of Danehill stand the 2012 season at Kirsten Rausing's Lanwades Stud in Newmarket.

A fee of £5,000 has been set for Aussie Rules, who was originally announced as standing 2012 at Coolmore in Ireland for €5,000.

Aussie Rules is set to end this season as a top five leading European second crop sire by money won thanks to performers such as Group 3 winner Djumama, the Preis der Diana runner-up who was also the champion German two-year-old of 2010, and the unbeaten Italian Group 3-winning juvenile Duck Feet. In all, he is the sire of seven stakes winners from just two crops of racing age.

Aussie Rules was a top-class performer for Aidan O'Brien, winning the Group 3 Somerville Tattersalls Stakes at two, and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and Grade 1 Shadwell Turf Mile at three.

He hails from an exceptional family that is appropriately associated with Lanwades and Faisal Salman's Denford Stud, being a son of Salman's Nassau Stakes heroine Last Second.

In turn, Last Second is one of four stakes winners out of Alruccaba, an outstanding mare for Rausing and Sonia Rogers who is also the ancestress of top-class runners such asAlborada and Quarter Moon.

Aussie Rules will be available to view by appointment at Lanwades Stud throughout the Tattersalls December Sale.
