Astronomer Royal to shuttle to Eliza Park

A SIGNIFICANT interest has been purchased in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Astronomer Royal by a syndicate of Australian breeders. As a result, the son Danzig will shuttle to Eliza Park Stud in Australia this season rather than Blue Gum Farm, where he has stood the past two seasons.

Astronomer Royal stands the northern hemisphere season in France at Haras de la Reboursiere et de Montaigu. His first European crop are yearlings.

"The syndicate has been searching for a well credentialled son of Danzig for some time and with Astronomer Royal's weanlings selling so well this year, they're convinced they've found the right horse," said Eliza Park CEO Cameron Croucher.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Astronomer Royal won three of 14 starts led by the 2007 renewal of the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and the Group 3 Greenland Stakes. He also ran second to Excellent Art in the St. James's Palace Stakes.

"We are very excited to be standing Astronomer Royal which brings our roster to 12 for the 2011 season," Croucher added. "Naturally he will be applicable for Eliza Park's best terms - transferrable free return and no payment of service fee until 31 March 2012 - but due to the late announcement, package deals will also be available."

Astronomer Royal's Australian fee has been set at A$8,800.
