the mark at Newbury

ASTRONOMER Royal maintained the fine run enjoyed by Haras de la Reboursiere et de Montaigu stallions on Friday when Sir Patrick Moore won his debut, the 6f maiden at Newbury, for Harry Dunlop.

The colt is only the second runner from the first crop of Astronomer Royal, who stands alongside French Fifteen's sire, Turtle Bowl, at Reboursiere et de Montaigu in Normandy for €5,000.

Bred in France by SF Bloodstock LLC, Sir Patrick Moore was a relatively inexpensive €16,000 purchase by MAB Agency at lastyear's Arqana October Sale. He is the first foal out of French 1m Listed winner America Nova, a Verglas half-sister to another French Listed scorer in Cat Nova.

Astronomer Royal enjoyed his finest moment in France when successful overCreachadoir and Excellent Art in the 2007 Poule d'Essai des Poulains for Aidan O'Brien. He also won the Group 3 Greenlands Stakes and filled the frame in the St James's Palace Stakes and Prix du Jockey Club.

The regally-bred son of Danzig has 40 two-year-olds in his first crop.
