Excellent Art: got the third stakes winner of his stallion career with Artistic Jewel's Listed Bosra Sham success at Newmarket today

Listed winner for Excellent Art at Newmarket

FIRST-SEASON sire Excellent Art got a second Listed winner of his stallion career with Artistic Jewel's win in the Listed Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes over 6f. The filly made it three out of three having won her maiden at Warwick in July and conditions race at Salisbury in September.

Bred by Jim McDonald, she was a €30,000 vendor buy-back at the Goffs Orby Sale. She is out of the winning Danehill mare Danish Gem and is a half-sister to the Listed winner Ponty Rossa (Distant View).

Excellent Art has had the Group 3 Grangecon Stakes winner Experience and the French Listed winner Nimohe, as well as 18 other race winners.

By Pivotal and winner of the Railway Stakes (G2) and the third home in the Prix Morny (G1) at two, and the winner of the St James's Palace Stakes (G1) at three, Excellent Art retired to Coolmore at a fee of €25,000. Over his four years at stud that fee, in line with the majority of stallion fees, has steadily declined and in 2011 he stood at €10,000.

Excellent Art's yearling average this autumn is 34,933gns, with a top price of 210,000gns given by John Warren for a colt out of Mrs Marsh and sold by Ballylinch Stud.
