Miss Finland produces Hussonet filly

GOLDEN Slipper Stakes heroine Miss Finland produced her first foal at Arrowfield Stud in Australia at noon on Thursday, a filly by Arrowfield's resident stallion Hussonet.

"Like all mares due to foal, Miss Finland has been pretty uncomfortable for the past few days but she foaled down easily enough once she was ready," said Nigel Jones, Arrowfield's stud groom.

Arrowfield chairman John Messara added: "I always thought she would be the perfect mate for Hussonet because of their physical and genetic compatibility and we must not forget that she's also by super stallion, Redoute's Choice."

Hussonet, who has sired 26 Group 1 winners and 19 champions, commands a fee of A$71,500.

Miss Finland was the outstanding filly of her generation for trainer David Hayes, winning the highly prestigious Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes as a two-year-old before progressing to take Group 1 events such as the VRC Oaks, Australian Guineas and Arrowfield Stud Stakes as a three-year-old.

She was the first filly to pull off theGolden Slipper and VRC Oaks double and only the second filly to win the Australian Guineas.

Out of the Woodman mare Forest Pearl, Miss Finland is a granddaughter of 1995 Oaks heroine Moonshell, herself a sister to King George winner Doyen.
