Arrowfield line up Ponti for southern hemisphere


GIO PONTI, the three-times Eclipse winner who earned over US$6 million, will stand the southern hemisphere season at Arrowfield Stud.

Arrowfield owner John Messara said of the the seven-time GR 1 winner: " Gio Ponti's superlative record will stamp him one of the all-time great American turf horses. His athleticism, good looks and (his sire) Tale of the Cat's proven compatibility with Australasian bloodlines make him a very exciting addition to our roster."

As well as top--level wins over a a mile and a mile-and-a-quarter,  Gio Ponti finished second to Zenyatta in the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic and a year later was runner-up to Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile.

Gio Ponti retired to stud this year at his owner Shane Ryan's  Castleton Lyons Farm in Lexington, Kentucky.

Ryan said: "We are excited for Arrowfield to be standing Gio Ponti, a world class operation in the international breeding industry. They have an excellent reputation and have a great record at making sires."

Gio Ponti's 2012 service fee at Arrowfield will be announced shortly.
