Arqana unveil catalogue for revamped August sale

ARGANA have unveiled an exceptional 478-strong catalogue for their flagship August Yearling Sale, which will kick off the European sale season on Monday 22 August.

The sale has been shifted back ten days from its traditional slot to coincide with Prix Morny weekend, a move which was made in response to requests voiced by a number of vendors and buyers and allows potential buyers to fully enjoy York's Ebor meeting. The change was made possible by the cooperation of DBS, who agreed to move their Premier Yearling Sale a week later.

In addition, this year's sale also features a new format designed to offer a more diversified catalogue. The 2011 catalogue is divided into two parts, within which the yearlings are sorted alphabetically; 'select session one' covers sessions on Monday and Tuesday while 'select session two' covers Wednesday and Thursday.

Session one contains 226 yearlings and selling commences at 5pm each night. Almost 50 per cent of yearlings on offer during this session are eligible for the French owners' premiums.

A further 252 yearlings have been catalogued tosession two, which starts at 4pm on Wednesday and 2pm on Thursday.

Among the yearlings catalogued is a sister to Recital and a Dalakhani colt out of a half-sister to Urban Sea, as well as the half-siblings to Group 1 winners Fuisse (by Anabaa); Blue Canari (by Dalakhani); Stormy River (by Galileo); Rumplestiltskin (by Galileo); and Naaqoos (by Danehill Dancer).

A Galileo daughter of Prix Saint-Alary heroine Coquerelle, a New Approach filly out of German Oaks winnerMystic Lips and a Danehill Dancer colt out of 1,000 Guineas winner Yesterday are other eye-catching lots on paper.

This year's renewal will also provide an important landmark for Arqana in that selling will take place from the company's new sales pavilion, which has been under construction during the past two years.

Among the improvements are a fully redesigned and renovated ring, restaurant with terrace and capacity for up to 200 people, revamped parade ring and panoramic lounge bar.
