Arqana releases August Yearling Sale catalogue

THE catalogue for this year's Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale has been published online.

Some 502 yearlings – including 121 siblings to Group performers – feature in the sale, which takes place from August 14 to 17.

The 2008 renewal proved to be remarkably recession-proof, achieving a record average price of €111,019 and a record median figure of €70,000.

A higher-than-ever proportion of foreign vendors will be consigning yearlings to this year's sale, with the names of Ballyhane Stud, Ballyhimikin Stud, Barouche Stud, Croom House Stud, Lodge Park Stud, Rathbarry Stud, Ronald Rauscher and Round Hill Stud all making their first appearance in the August catalogue.

Verglas, sire of this season's French 2,000 Guineas hero SilverFrost, has the largest representation among the sires, with 18 yearlings catalogued.

Also featured in the index of stallions are the sires of all of the other major Classic winners in Europe so far this year: Cape Cross, Danehill Dancer, Elusive City, Giant's Causeway, Monsun and Pivotal.

Among the first-crop yearling sires represented in the catalogue are Hurricane Run, Shirocco, Araafa, Iffraaj and Holy Roman Emperor.

Plenty of siblings and half-siblings to Group 1 winners are on offer, including a Peintre Celebre half-sister to Prix du Jockey-Club hero Le Havre, a three-parts brother to Naaqoos by Green Desert, and a Holy Roman Emperor half-sister to Oratorio.
