Arqana hosts Saint-Cloud breeze-up

ARQANA has compiled 165 lots for its showcase two-year-old sale of the year, which coincides with Longchamp's French Guineas meeting.

Lots breezes at Saint-Cloud racecourse yesterday and selling starts on Saturday at 2pm (local time).

Arqana's breeze-up sale has continued to strengthen and has now become an alternative to Newmarket for consignors' best
two-year-olds.

Turnover, average and median have risen each year since 2005 and last year's gross of €6,917,000 was up 24 per cent on 2010. A Giant's Causeway filly offered through Willie Browne's Mocklershill topped last year's auction, after being knocked down to Charlie Gordon-Watson for €260,000. The filly, named
Almase, is unraced.

It has attracted an increasingly international audience and last year Dubai-based Prime Equestrian group bought 26 lots for €1,618,000. The lucrative French prize-money and breeders' premiums have played a prominent role in attracting prospective buyers and this year 85 of the catalogued lots.
are eligible.
