Arlington Million hero Spirit One off the mark

ARLINGTON Million hero Spirit One opened his account as a stallion on Monday when Aksil won the opening 5 1/2 furlong race at Salon Provence in France.

The filly scored by half-a-length under Frederic Pardon from the Sunday Break colt Sunday Dream. Sakina, another first-crop daughter of Spirit One, took third.

A homebred for Kamel Chehboub and Boualem Chehboub, Aksil is the sixth winner out of Nera Zilzal, who has produced two Listed-placed runners in Pistachette and Itri (both by Agnes Kamikaze).

Spirit One carried Kamel Chehboub's colours to victory in five races, notably when defeating Archipenko to win the 2008 Arlington Million. He was also second, beaten a head, to Mount Nelson in the 2006 Criterium International.

The son of Anabaa Blue has 37 two-year-olds in his first crop and is standing this season at Haras de Lonray for €3,000.
