Sholokhov extends lead in German sire race

THERE'S still all to play for in the German sires' championship of 2010 after the country's penultimate race day at Neuss on Sunday, although leader Sholokhov extended his slender advantage over closest pursuer Areion.

Sholokov went into the day with a €350 advantage over Areion and both had two runners on the card.

Neither of Areion's representatives, Beltana or Noreia, managed to reach the first three, but one of Sholokhov's - Nenzo - did win, with the other, Signora, unplaced.

That means Sholokhov now has a buffer of €2,650 going into Germany's final race day of 2010 at Neuss on New Year's Eve.

Sholokhov's progeny earnings in Germany stand at €589,595 compared to Areion's haul of €586,945.

It will be a first German sires' championship for either Gestuet Etzean's Sholokhov or Gestuet Auenquelle's Areion.
